Ondaatje Prize 2010 Shortlist

The shortlist has been announced for the 2010 Ondaatje Prize, awarded annually by the Royal Society of Literature to a “distinguished work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, evoking the spirit of a place”.

The Plot by Madeleine Bunting (Granta)

The Music Room by William Fiennes (Picador)

In Other Rooms, Other Wonders by Daniyal Mueenuddin (Bloomsbury)

The Shadow of a Smile by Kachi A. Ozumba (Alma Books)

Hackney, That Rose-Red Empire by Iain Sinclair (Hamish Hamilton)

The Dead Yard: Tales of Modern Jamaica by Ian Thomson (Faber)

The winner, chosen by judges Kathleen Jamie, Professor Steve Jones and Penelope Lively, will be announced on 24 May. Last year’s winner was Adam Nicolson for his book Sissinghurst: An Unfinished History.
