In Our Time
A classic edition this morning, as Melvyn and guests discussed one of The Omnivore’s favourite bedtime reads, Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. Putting in a sterling performance was young(ish) Oxford don Diarmaid McCulloch, whose magisterial tome A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years came out last year to superlative reviews.
On this week’s Open Book, first broadcast on Sunday, writer Maureen Freely spoke to Mariella Frostrup about literary translation, in particular her work on The Museum of Innocence by Turkish-born Nobel prizewinner Orhan Pamuk.
Also, novelist Christopher Brookmyre mentioned his latest thriller, Pandaemonium.
